Effective from 15 August 2009, Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) for China, Hong Kong, Macau, Japan, Taiwan and Korea to Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne ports will be implemented at USD 250/500 per 20’/40’.
The PSS will be applied, as it has been in previous years, to recover costs borne by carriers as a result of the congestion of cargoes. The peak season surcharge is separate to the Basic Sea Freight and will only be levied during the peak season. Vessel utilizations currently warrant the application of the peak season surcharge and will be monitored over the time when it is applied. When utilizations have subsided in the trade, the PSS will be released. The release date will be defined at a later stage.
